We do lots of stuff at BK Productions. And while we love what we do, it has to be said that some things are more fun than others. Some things need to be done. And then there the things we live for. Like making films. All the other stuff is in some way secondary to the opportunity to be producing stories through film. So, we were pretty excited to be shooting 'The Ballet' in June. Directed by Anthony, it was a three day shoot in North London. We had a crew of about 20, and shot all in one location.
The shoot went really well, and we were lucky to have a cast and crew that were excellent. We've seen the footage now and it all looks great. Its currently being edited and we hope to have a first cut pretty soon.
Below are some production stills.
It seems for a while we were blogging about what we had planned for the future, rather than what we had actually done. Not this time though. Over the last couple of months we've been very, very busy, and feel like we have achieved a lot. This is some of the more exciting stuff we've done...will blog about them individually soon...
Creative Festival - a unique creative event for 150 people.
Short Film - produced by BK, directed by Anthony.
Music Video - we shot a video for HealerMonster, for their song Uberman.
And of course we have to slip in something about up coming projects...Dennis Wonder music video shoot end of July, currently in pre-production, along with a short to be directed by Alex, shooting in August.
We like to work :)
The viral we shot for BTFon has just gone live. You can see it at The World's Biggest Mexican Wave
The client is BTFon (as in British Telecom and FON the Spanish wireless company). Alex and Anthony co-directed and produced for the ad agency Albion. We're all delighted with it. The whole campaign is really fun...you can upload a video of yourself doing a Mexican Wave and in the process help create the world's biggest Mexican Wave. The Arsenal team have already uploaded theirs :)
Alex Bourne's performance is (in my opinion anyway) a masterclass in playing subtlety.
We intend to blog more than quarterly, but its just been crazy since our last post at the turn of the year. Crazy good, not crazy bad, we're happy to say.
Here's an update on some of the things we've been doing and what's to follow:
SHORT FILMS:
- Anthony is shooting a 10-minute short in mid-April. There are 3 days of shooting in London.
- Alex is directing a short in mid-May. Again, its a 10-minute piece. Shooting will be in Bristol.
We're excited about these films. Drama is our first love, and its great to get back into the directing saddle for this type of project after lots of viral, corporate and music video work.
VIRALS:
- We shot a 2 minute viral film for BT Fon last month. This was done with our friends over at the ad agency Albion, who look after BT Fon as well as many other premium brands (Ebay, Skype, BlackBerry).
Its not live yet, so we can't say anything more about it, but we'll post it here as soon as its live. Its a really fun piece and we think (hope) its going to be pretty popular.
MUSIC VIDEOS:
- We had to postpone the HealerMonster shoot two days before it was due to happen, as the drummer injured his arm quite seriously. Obviously everyone was disappointed as we were looking forward to a great shoot, bu the main thing is for Sascha to recover of course. Everything is in place to start again as soon as he is mended!!!
- We're in pre-production for a Dennis Wonder music video. Have a look at his profile on MySpace (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=195945305)
...he's an extremely talented artist and we're looking forward to working with him and his dancers.
FILMWORKS:
- Continues to grow and develop...we've already done a number of workshops this year, and are filling up quite quickly for the next few months. There are some exciting developments on this front as well, which we'll blog about as soon as they are finalised....watch this space.
That's been the highlights of a hectic two months. We're resolved to be more active with the blogging despite the prospect of even busier times ahead.
Well 2008 has arrived and with it the annual feeling of having the world of possibilities open up before you for the virgin year ahead. It looks to be a massive year for BK productions.
We are currently developing a number of creative projects and two of those are short films. With a different director on board for each, they look like really interesting pieces
We're in pre-prod on a promo for an exciting band called Meantime. The categories to which they associate themselves on their MySpace page are Metal/Hardcore/Alternative. Put it this way...they're not for the mild-mannered amongst us. If you're into adult contemporary, then these guys aren't for you. They'd eat Michael Buble alive.
All of this means that they're a totally different proposition to the last act we shot. The only thing they have in common is that they're both talented. I'm not sure anyone in the B&K office would've actually listened to something of the same genre as Meantime on the Ipod on the way home (not yet anyway), but therein lies the challenge for us...to look outside of a world we know and are familiar with, and to create a kick-ass video for these guys.
We're excited.
Shooting takes place in late January.
