Short Film

We do lots of stuff at BK Productions. And while we love what we do, it has to be said that some things are more fun than others. Some things need to be done. And then there the things we live for. Like making films. All the other stuff is in some way secondary to the opportunity to be producing stories through film. So, we were pretty excited to be shooting 'The Ballet' in June. Directed by Anthony, it was a three day shoot in North London. We had a crew of about 20, and shot all in one location.

The shoot went really well, and we were lucky to have a cast and crew that were excellent. We've seen the footage now and it all looks great. Its currently being edited and we hope to have a first cut pretty soon.

Below are some production stills.

What we've been doing...

It seems for a while we were blogging about what we had planned for the future, rather than what we had actually done. Not this time though. Over the last couple of months we've been very, very busy, and feel like we have achieved a lot. This is some of the more exciting stuff we've done...will blog about them individually soon...

Creative Festival -  a unique creative event for 150 people.
Short Film - produced by BK, directed by Anthony.
Music Video - we shot a video for HealerMonster, for their song Uberman.

And of course we have to slip in something about up coming projects...Dennis Wonder music video shoot end of July, currently in pre-production, along with a short to be directed by Alex, shooting in August.

We like to work :)

Some of the stuff we shot for Seedcamp has been used on Reuters. Nice to see this work getting out there, particularly with as big a brand as Reuters.
Interesting stories as well, you can watch them at Reuters.com

BTFon - How to join the world's biggest Mexican Wave goes LIVE

The viral we shot for BTFon has just gone live. You can see it at The World's Biggest Mexican Wave

The client is BTFon (as in British Telecom and FON the Spanish wireless company). Alex and Anthony co-directed and produced for the ad agency Albion. We're all delighted with it. The whole campaign is really fun...you can upload a video of yourself doing a Mexican Wave and in the process help create the world's biggest Mexican Wave. The Arsenal team have already uploaded theirs :)

Alex Bourne's performance is (in my opinion anyway) a masterclass in playing subtlety.

What's been happening in 2008

We intend to blog more than quarterly, but its just been crazy since our last post at the turn of the year. Crazy good, not crazy bad, we're happy to say.

Here's an update on some of the things we've been doing and what's to follow:

SHORT FILMS:

- Anthony is shooting a 10-minute short in mid-April. There are 3 days of shooting in London.
- Alex is directing a short in mid-May. Again, its a 10-minute piece. Shooting will be in Bristol.

We're excited about these films. Drama is our first love, and its great to get back into the directing saddle for this type of project after lots of viral, corporate and music video work.

VIRALS:

- We shot a 2 minute viral film for BT Fon last month. This was done with our friends over at the ad agency Albion, who look after BT Fon as well as many other premium brands (Ebay, Skype, BlackBerry).

Its not live yet, so we can't say anything more about it, but we'll post it here as soon as its live. Its a really fun piece and we think (hope) its going to be pretty popular.

MUSIC VIDEOS:

- We had to postpone the HealerMonster shoot two days before it was due to happen, as the drummer  injured his arm quite seriously.  Obviously everyone was disappointed as we were looking forward to a great shoot, bu the main thing is for Sascha to recover of course. Everything is in place to start again as soon as he is mended!!!

- We're in pre-production for a Dennis Wonder music video. Have a look at his profile on MySpace (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=195945305)
...he's an extremely talented artist and we're looking forward to working with him and his dancers.

FILMWORKS:

- Continues to grow and develop...we've already done a number of workshops this year, and are filling up quite quickly for the next few months. There are some exciting developments on this front as well, which we'll blog about as soon as they are finalised....watch this space.

That's been the highlights of a hectic two months. We're resolved to be more active with the blogging despite the prospect of even busier times ahead.

Happy new year from Bonney and Klein

Well 2008 has arrived and with it the annual feeling of having the world of possibilities open up before you for the virgin year ahead. It looks to be a massive year for BK productions.

We are going to be expanding into new and exciting areas with new projects and clients. We will be expanding more into the charity promo field which is something that is very close to Alex's heart. In August we shot a fundraising promo for the Sam Buxton Sunflower Trust, a great little charity that provides healers for cancer patients, and it helped in raising the 100k needed to keep the charity going for another year. This was inspiring to be part of and we are hoping to many more similar promos.

We have a number of singers and bands in line for music videos in the coming months and this is another area that we will be concentrating a great deal of energy on. The medium allows for such a broad scope of ideas and styles - as film makers it is such a rich and exciting place to work in.

We are also coming to the later stages of development of a documentary about mental health in the UK. We are about to try to get it made in cooperation with the channel 4 series '3 Minute Wonder' but could still develop it for a longer format perhaps. Docs are another area that will certainly be expanded at BK in 2008. The power to tell a story anchored in the real world with real characters is attractive and challenging - particularly as documentaries seem to have taken a real leap in popularity in recent years.

Of course we will continue with our corporate work and shooting shorts in the coming months and we have some exciting projects lined up for these. Watch this space for more news and thoughts as they arise.

Happy new year - 2008  is going to be an amazing one!

Bonney and Klein to shoot a Healermonster promo

We are excited to be involved with the English indie/rock outfit Healermonster. The band has just recorded a four track EP 'Version 1' and been gigging solidly for the last few months. Their sound is strong and original (reminiscent of bands such as the Charlatans, Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age) with an infusion of wit and humour in the lyrics.

The video will be for one of the tracks featured on the EP and be used to launch them to a wider audience in 2008. The video is scheduled to be shot in January 08' and available for viewing at bonneyandklein.com sometime in February.

Short films in the pipeline

We are currently developing a number of creative projects and two of those are short films. With a different director on board for each, they look like really interesting pieces

Anthony is writing a semi autobiographical look at childhood and mortality. He is currently working with script supervisor Graham and the script is on its third draft. The film has been penciled in for a Febuary/March shoot date and current thinking within the team is that it could well be shot on film. A number of DPs have been considered - so watch this space for more news in the coming weeks.

The second drama project is a delightful short story written by Claudia and is being developed into a script -  Alex will be at the helm directing. It takes a gentle look at the unusual symbiotic relationships that occur in everyday life. Already the experienced DP, Suzi Rowell has been considered for the project. It is likely that we will shoot on DVCPRO HD for this and keep the crew to a minimum. We were reared on small crew/fast shooting type sets and are keen to make our film making as simple and fuss free as possible.

There is an excellent heritage of short films within Bonney and Klein Film Productions - Alex has won a number of awards for previous work, and we have taken on a great range of genres and subject matter in the past. We've also used a range of formats from 35mm film to DVcam. With these films and the start of the acting/directing workshops (see previous post and more details to come), Q1 looks to be an exciting time in drama for Bonney and Klein.

Meantime

We're in pre-prod on a promo for an exciting band called Meantime. The categories to which they associate themselves on their MySpace page are Metal/Hardcore/Alternative. Put it this way...they're not for the mild-mannered amongst us. If you're into adult contemporary, then these guys aren't for you. They'd eat Michael Buble alive.

All of this means that they're a totally different proposition to the last act we shot. The only thing they have in common is that they're both talented. I'm not sure anyone in the B&K office would've actually listened to something of the same genre as Meantime on the Ipod on the way home (not yet anyway), but therein lies the challenge for us...to look outside of a world we know and are familiar with, and to create a kick-ass video for these guys.

We're excited.

Shooting takes place in late January.
